We stopped building AR apps. Here's what we build instead.

For three years we built native AR apps. They were beautiful and almost nobody used them. The install gap killed everything: people would scan a poster, see the App Store, and walk away.
Web-AR (8th Wall, WebXR, Niantic Lightship) has matured to a point where the experience starts in three seconds from a QR code. No install, no permissions screen, no friction.
Our last three AR projects have all shipped as web-AR, and tour completion rates have moved from a typical 20–25% to consistently above 70%. The right technology is the one people actually use.
