Why we give honest estimates instead of optimistic ones
April 18, 2026·6 min·BlastOut Studio
Every studio has a story about the project that doubled in scope and stayed at the original price. Ours is a content platform we quoted at eight weeks and shipped at sixteen. We took the loss, learned the lesson, and rewrote how we estimate.
Our estimates now have three numbers: the comfortable case, the realistic case, and the everything-goes-wrong case. Clients see all three. Most pick the realistic one. The honest conversation up front saves a fight in week six.
If you can't estimate honestly, you can't price honestly. And if you can't price honestly, you'll either lose money or quietly cut corners. Neither is worth it.
