No black boxes: a documentation rule we never break

The day we hand a project over is the most important day of the engagement. If the client's team can't continue the work without us, we've failed — even if everything technically works.
Every handover includes: a setup README that gets you running in under 10 minutes, an architecture diagram drawn in Excalidraw, a 30-minute Loom walkthrough, and a 'why we did this' decision log.
It costs us about three days at the end of every project. It saves the client three months of reverse-engineering. The math is obvious.
